It’s Respiratory Therapy Day! | McGill University Health Centre
Congratulations Catherine Renaud! Thank you and all your colleagues for the excellent work you do. Join us as we celebrate Respiratory Therapy Day on May 19!
Q1. Tell us about working with your colleagues.
I am grateful to work with such dedicated and competent colleagues. As respiratory therapists, we must work closely together to develop effective treatment plans and coordinate patient care. Each team member brings unique skills and expertise to the table, enabling our team to provide comprehensive, personalized care. We work closely with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible patient care. Communication is essential to our teamwork.
Q2. How do you like to unwind after your shift?
After a busy shift, I like to relax by taking some time for myself. I like to immerse myself in a good book, as reading allows me to escape and relax. Yoga is also a great way for me to relax my mind and body after a busy day. Practising yoga allows me to refocus and rediscover my inner balance.
Secondly, I enjoy quality time with my husband. Whether it’s sharing a quiet meal, watching a film together or discussing our days, these moments are precious to me. They allow me to reconnect with him and enjoy our relationship.
By combining reading, yoga and time with my husband, I find a balance that allows me to relax and recharge my batteries so that I’m ready to face a new day at work.
Q3. What led you to becoming a respiratory therapist?
What led me to become a respiratory therapist was my passion for respiratory health and my deep desire to help others overcome their health challenges. I’ve always been fascinated by the workings of the human body and the crucial importance of breathing in life. I wanted to have a direct and positive impact on the lives of patients and their families by providing them with the best possible care. Becoming a respiratory therapist allowed me to combine my passion for other people’s health and wellbeing with a dynamic and rewarding work environment.
Q4. What’s the best advice that someone at the MUHC ever gave you?
To always remain open to new ideas and different perspectives. A colleague encouraged me to never stop learning, be it technical skills, more efficient work methods or even life lessons. This approach has enabled me to continue to grow professionally and personally, and it has also helped me to adapt to the constant changes in our field. I’m grateful for this advice because it really helped me broaden my horizons and become a better respiratory therapist.
